Salsa Dancing Seattle This is a regular weekly schedule. Events may be altered for special occasions, etc. If you're from out of town and you aren't sure about a venue we recommend emailing us in advance for advice, we'd be happy to help. Notes: -All events are 21+, unless otherwise noted. (And yes, they do card.) -Descriptions are our own personal review of the locations, based on our experiences and preferences.
Dance Seattle (Sunday)
Triple Door Time: 9:30pm - 1:30am Cover: No Cover. Location: 216 Union Street Description: A live band, elegant attire, and beautiful interior make this a great date spot. Dance space is a bit limited, but everyone makes do. The only down side is the horrible DJing in-between the live sets with barely audible music whimpering out of tiny speakers. The bands vary in Salsa style, from colloquial Cuban to a more Mambo vibe, but they are all lots of fun. I particularly like Mambo Cadillac, fronted by Seattle's well-known Conga player Tor Dietrichson. Street Parking. See-Sound Lounge Time: 10pm - 1:30am Cover: $5 Location: 115 Blanchard St Belltown Description: Located in the heart of bell-town, home of shiny shirts, boutique clothing stores, and restaurants with cool one-word names no one remembers, I like see-sound. I like it because the music is good, the ambience has just the right touch of dirty, and the dancers show up late. The floor is cement but surprisingly good to dance on, and there is usually room. Cover is $5, so come drink and dance the night away. (And if your lucky you might even find an empty broom closet to make out in.)
Dance Seattle (Monday)
HaLo Time: 7:30pm - 11:00pm Cover: $5 Location: 500 E Pike Street, 2nd floor Description: Owned by Century Ballroom, HaLo is an all ages venue held in a beautiful New York style loft space. There is ample room to move, and killer hardwood floors. Monday nights is a Practica with a pre-set and highly mundane playlist, and poor sound system (different from Friday). Low volume allows for conversation and very casual dancing. The dance level is mostly beginner, but the all-ages aspect is fantastic for those of you under 21. Street Parking.
Dance Seattle (Tuesday) No events to speak of.
Dance Seattle (Wednesday)
Babalu Time: 9:00 - 1:30am Cover: No Cover. Location: 1723 N 45th St Description: Dance space is very limited, but the live band and passable DJing make this a good Wednesday night destination. Dimly lit bar vibe with a couple nice soft couches, the dancing isn't too high level but I like the atmosphere
Dance Seattle (Thursday)
Century Ballroom Time: 9:30pm - 1:30am Cover: $5 Location: 915 E Pine, 2nd floor Description: Seattle's eminent dance ballroom, Century Ballroom hosts a beautiful expanse of hardwood floor, full bar, and free coat check. All levels of dancers can be found here, so don't let the local hotshots by the door intimidate you if you are just starting out. The DJing can be a bit hit or miss if you're a real aficionado of Salsa music. Gustavo "El General" usually spins a basic mix of mainstream pop Salsa with a typical smattering of merengue, bachata, and chachacha. If you're lucky enough to catch DJ Victor Chavez or DJ Cebrina you can expect a more sophisticated combination of mambo tracks. Both DJs, Victor and Cebrina, are prominent local dancers as well and really know how to build an evening of music. Expect a fairly crowded floor on most nights. Street Parking. *There is an all-ages event held at the ballroom on the first Friday of every month with DJ Cebrina (9:30pm-12:30am) ($7)
Dance Seattle (Friday)
Rock Salt Time: 10pm - 2am Cover: $10 (Ladies free before 10:30pm) Location: 1232 Westlake Ave N, Seattle WA Description: A large Latin dance club with 2 dance floors. The top floor is Reggaeton and Merengue with a jammed packed dance floor. Definitely a hang out for young Latinos bringing a date, looking for a date, and generally raising the roof. Rock Salt's dimly lit basement pumps out a fairly generic salsa mix, particularly catering to Cuban dancers. Don't expect many top-level dancers, and be prepared for an assault on your eardrums from a horrible sound system. In short, it's a bit drunk, a bit seedy, but hey it's Salsa right? Don't forget your pointy shoes! 3 full bars. Free parking. O' Asian Bar Time: 10pm - 1:30am Cover: $15 for men, $10 for the ladies Location: 800 5th Ave. Suite 1 (Between Marion & Colombia, Bank of America BLDG) Description: O'Asian, normally a Pan-Asian Cuisine Restaurant, alters their dining room to host not just one, but TWO salsa floors! One floor holds your traditional Salsa hits, while the other mixes it up with some Top 40's Hip hop, Reggaetone, Merengue, and always a crowd favorite, the Bachata! For you beginners out there, don't feel intimidated about coming out, you'll primarily find intermediate dancers, to first timers, just like you. So if you're just looking to dress up, have some fun, and get your salsa on, head out to the O'Asian Friday night. Century Ballroom (First Friday of the Month) Time: 9:30 - 12:30pm Cover: $7 Location: 915 E Pine, 2nd floor Description: There is an all-ages event held at Century Ballroom with DJ Cebrina. See Thursday's description. HaLo Time: 9:30pm - 12:30am [Every Friday except the first of the month when the dance is held at Century Ballroom, a couple blocks away. ($7)] Cover: $5 Location: 500 E Pike Street, 2nd floor Description: Owned by Century Ballroom, HaLo is an all ages venue held in a beautiful New York style loft space. Ample room to move, and killer hardwood floors. DJ Cebrina spins top notch medium tempo tracks, definitely catering to the beginner level dancers, of which there are many. This is a nice low pressure environment to try out your new moves and hang out with fellow beginners. Dance shoes are mandatory. Street Parking.

With a mostly Latin crowd, expect to cumbia and merengue all night long. If you're into complicated cross-body lead/triple turn patterns this isn't the place for you, but the atmosphere is authentic. Free Parking.
